offBeat Music Magazine has been Louisiana and New Orleans music resource for almost two decades. In the last decade there have been three incarnations of offbeat.com, their online component. However, the most recent version was difficult to navigate and did not offer the magazine's editors any way to add their own bylines and any breaking music news. datatv came in and slightly over two months totally redesigned the layout of the website adding polls, restaurant and club listings, tickers offering breaking news and nightly club and event listings as well as a content management system so offbeat's editors could quickly add new content no matter where they were. The new site is one of the first to use a new web typography engine called sIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) allowing for cleaner text and more options in font selection. Unique branding and sponsorship opportunities were created for offbeat.com advertisers offering placements that go beyond typical banner advertisments. The site launched right before the annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in April 2005. One week later, datatv and offBeat made history by being the first Louisiana based news site from any type of media to offer a wireless version of its' website to its audience. The wireless site, wireless.offbeat.com, is compatible with all Palm Treo's, Sprint PCS Vision smartphones, T-Mobile Sidekicks and Pocket PC's running the Windows Mobile platform.
